About
Meet Karen
Karen is a 70-year young woman who thought she was retired.
Apparently, retirement had other plans.
Then she discovered Mahjong, and an entirely new world opened up…one filled with tiles, friendships, laughter, ideas, and, before long, a new business venture.
Business has always been part of Karen’s story. Over the years, she has owned several businesses, including a pizza chain and a children’s clothing/furniture store, along with a few others. The truth is, she simply likes doing business and one thing she has always had a knack for was spotting trends. Finding the niche and creating something from it, and watching where the idea might lead.
Not every business was a success, and Karen would be the first to tell you that some of her most valuable lessons came from the ones that weren’t. Success taught her plenty, but failure taught her more: how to adapt, how to keep going, how to recognize what really matters, and how to start again without being afraid.
Long before Mahjong entered the picture, Karen was deeply involved in community service. She has always been drawn to issues that touch her heart, particularly food insecurity and homelessness. When she sees a need, she has a hard time simply walking past it. She believes that if you have the ability to help, it is your responsibility to do something!
But through all the businesses, projects, causes, and adventures, the thing Karen treasures most is friendships. Those that have lasted a lifetime, and those that are new.
Her people matter to her. A lot.
Mahjong unexpectedly brought many of those pieces together. It gave her a new community, new friendships, new ideas, and another opportunity to do something she loves like take a little idea, give it some energy, and see just how big it might become.
So yes, Karen was retired.
For a little while.
Then Mahjong happened.
